INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY BASICS
Information Technology (IT) - a field concerned with the use of technology in managing and processing information. It is a software to analyze data.
Information technology is an important enabler of business success and innovation.
Management Information System (MIS) - a general name for the business function and academic discipline covering the application of people, technologies, and procedures to solve business problems.
MIS is a business function similar to Accounting, Finance, Operation, and Human Resources.
Fact - The confirmation or validation of an event or object
Information age - The present time, during which infinite quantities of facts are widely available to anyone who can use a computer.
There are four core drivers of information age which are :
i) Data - raw facts that describe the characteristics of an event
ii) Information - data converted into a meaningful and useful context
iii) Business Intelligence - applications and technologies that are used to support decison-making efforts
iv) Knowledge - The skills, experience, and expertise, coupled with information and intelligence that creates a person's intellectual resources.
